Alchemy¶
Overview¶
Alchemy is the art of brewing magical potions using reagents and empty bottles. Alchemists can create a wide variety of potions that provide healing, enhance attributes, cure poison, and even create explosive concoctions. The skill is essential for adventurers who want to maintain their health and combat effectiveness without relying solely on magic or bandages.
Getting Started¶
To practice Alchemy, you'll need:
- Mortar and Pestle - Your primary crafting tool
- Empty Bottles - Required for each potion you create
- Reagents - Magical ingredients specific to each potion type
- Alchemy Skill - Higher skill levels unlock more powerful potions
Crafting Potions¶
Basic Process¶
- Have a Mortar and Pestle in your backpack
- Ensure you have the required reagents and empty bottles
- Use the Alchemy skill from your skill menu
- Select the potion you wish to craft from the crafting menu
- The potion will be created and placed in your backpack
Skill Requirements¶
Each potion has minimum and maximum skill requirements. At the minimum skill level, you have a chance to succeed, while at the maximum skill level, success becomes guaranteed. Failed attempts consume your reagents but return an empty bottle.
Enhanced Potions¶
Your Alchemy skill directly affects potion potency. For every 33 points of Alchemy skill, potions become approximately 10% more effective. This bonus applies to:
- Healing amounts
- Duration of stat-boosting effects
- Poison strength (when applied via Poisoning skill)

Potion Kegs¶
Potion kegs are specialized containers that can hold up to 100 doses of a single potion type. They're invaluable for storing large quantities of potions efficiently.
Using Potion Kegs¶
Creating a Keg: - Craft potions normally with a potion keg in your backpack - If the keg matches the potion type and isn't full, the potion automatically goes into the keg - You receive an empty bottle back for each dose added
Filling from a Keg: - Double-click the keg - Have an empty bottle in your backpack - The bottle is consumed and filled with one dose from the keg
Adding to a Keg: - Drag and drop potions onto the keg - The keg must match the potion type - Empty kegs accept the first potion type added to them - You cannot mix different potion types in the same keg
Keg Capacity Messages¶
When examining a keg, you'll see one of these messages:
- "The keg is empty" (0 doses)
- "The keg is nearly empty" (1-4 doses)
- "The keg is not very full" (5-19 doses)
- "The keg is about one quarter full" (20-29 doses)
- "The keg is about one third full" (30-39 doses)
- "The keg is almost half full" (40-46 doses)
- "The keg is approximately half full" (47-53 doses)
- "The keg is more than half full" (54-69 doses)
- "The keg is about three quarters full" (70-79 doses)
- "The keg is very full" (80-95 doses)
- "The liquid is almost to the top of the keg" (96-99 doses)
- "The keg is completely full" (100 doses)
Keg Restrictions¶
- Kegs cannot hold Invisibility potions or other special potion types
- Once a keg contains a potion type, it cannot be changed
- Kegs weigh 20 stones empty, plus 0.8 stones per dose stored
Combat Usage¶
Heal Potion Timing¶
Heal potions have a 10-second cooldown between uses. Plan your potion consumption carefully during combat:
- Drink heal potions before taking fatal damage
- Keep multiple types ready for different situations
- Remember you cannot heal while poisoned - cure first!
Explosion Potions¶
Explosion potions can be thrown at enemies but require careful timing and positioning. The damage scales with your Alchemy skill.
