Tailoring

Overview

Tailoring is a crafting skill that allows players to create clothing, cloth armor, leather armor, and various decorative items. Tailors work with cloth and leather to produce everything from simple shirts to protective armor pieces. The skill is essential for creating both functional equipment and fashionable attire.

Getting Started

To practice tailoring, you'll need: - Sewing Kit - Your primary crafting tool - Materials - Cloth or leather depending on what you're crafting - Access to the tailoring menu through your sewing kit

Skill Gain

Tailoring skill increases through successful crafting attempts. The skill is governed by: - Primary Stat: Dexterity - Secondary Stat: Intelligence

You gain skill by crafting items at or near your current skill level. Items that are too easy (green difficulty) won't provide skill gains, while items that are too difficult (red difficulty) have a low success rate.

Crafting Quality

Success Chance

Your chance to successfully craft an item depends on: - Your tailoring skill level - The difficulty of the item - The quality of materials used

The skill range shown for each item indicates: - Minimum Skill: The lowest skill at which you can attempt the item - Maximum Skill: The skill at which you have the best chance of success

Exceptional Items

When crafting, you have a chance to create an exceptional quality item. Exceptional items: - Have better properties than normal items - Can bear your maker's mark (if you have that option enabled) - Require higher skill to consistently produce - Provide better protection (for armor pieces)

Quality Messages

After crafting, you'll receive one of these messages: - "You were barely able to make this item. It's quality is below average." - Low quality success - "You create the item." - Normal quality success - "You create an exceptional quality item." - High quality success - "You create an exceptional quality item and affix your maker's mark." - Exceptional with signature - "You failed to create the item, but no materials were lost." - Failed attempt, materials saved - "You failed to create the item, and some of your materials are lost." - Failed attempt, materials consumed

Customization

Dyeing Items

Many tailored items can be dyed using dyes or a dye tub: - Cloth items retain the color of the cloth used - Leather items can be dyed after creation - Certain decorative items like goza mats are dyeable

Maker's Mark

Tailors can choose to place their signature on exceptional items they create. This option can be toggled in the crafting menu and adds prestige to your work.

Tips for Aspiring Tailors

Starting Out (0-30 skill) - Begin with simple items like bandanas and skull caps - These require minimal materials and provide steady skill gains - Stock up on cloth from NPC tailors or sheep

Intermediate (30-70 skill) - Move to items like shirts, pants, and basic leather armor - Start experimenting with different leather types - Consider selling your wares to other players

Advanced (70-100 skill) - Focus on studded armor and bone armor for best skill gains - Use higher quality leather (spined, horned, barbed) for better results - Exceptional items become more common at this level

Material Management - Buy cloth in bulk from NPC tailors - Hunt animals for leather or buy from other players - Collect bones from skeleton creatures for bone armor - Keep different leather types organized in separate containers

Profitable Crafting - Exceptional armor pieces sell well to warriors - Decorative clothing appeals to roleplayers - Bone armor is popular for its distinctive appearance - Consider taking custom orders from other players

Tool Usage

Your sewing kit has limited uses and will eventually wear out. You'll see the message "You have worn out your tool!" when it breaks. Always carry spare sewing kits to avoid interrupting your crafting sessions.

The tool must be in your backpack or equipped to use it for crafting.
